Perseverance Lodge of Mark Master Masons, the third Mark Lodge in Singapore was consecrated on 4 August 2012 by The MW Pro Grand Master, MW Bro. Benjamin Addy, assisted by a large number of Mark Grand Officers from London and many senior Mark Brethren from Singapore and Malaysia. The Founding Master of the Lodge was VW Bro Ong Hean Tat, a Past Deputy District Grand Master of the District.
The formation of the Lodge and its consecration were indeed memorable and its background merits re-capitulation.
Sometime around the middle of 2011, there was a move in Malaysia to form a sovereign Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons, envisaging that all existing Mark Lodges of the District Grand Lodge of Mark Masons of South-East Asia would withdraw their affiliation with the Grand Lodge of Master Masons of England and Wales and its Districts and Lodges Overseas (GLM UK) and regroup themselves under the aegis of that newly founded Grand Lodge, having its headquarters in Malaysia.
A substantial body of Mark Brethren in Singapore resisted the move to withdraw their affiliation with GLM UK and made that desire clear. Consequently, the secret ballots conducted in the Lodges in Singapore conclusively and by an overwhelming majority established that all the Lodges in Singapore would like to continue to be under the rule and jurisdiction of GLM UK.
Then a technical problem arose as to sustainability of the existing Mark District as for a District to operate, The MW The Grand Master HRH Prince Michael of Kent of GLM UK ruled that it must have at least three Mark Lodges.
Goaded by their zeal and fidelity and being confident of the future, Brethren in Singapore stepped forward and petitioned GLM UK to form The Perseverance Lodge. In the result, the Petition, sponsored by The Edaljee Khory Mark Lodge, was granted by The MW The Grand Master and the former District of Mark Masons of South-East Asia was re-designated as the District of Mark Masons of Singapore.
Since its inception, the Lodge is continuing to flourish.
